HEAD COACH: DR. JEREMY C. WHITMORE
Jeremy is a Mt. Crawford, Virginia native who began wrestling at the age of 6, being raised up in the hardcore old school Shenandoah Valley Wrestling Club and later excelling throughout his high school career. He won multiple titles at the District and Regional level, as well as was a VHSL state runner-up in 2000. Jeremy found his greatest success on the mat while competing in Greco Roman and Freestyle arenas, where he won multiple state titles and represented Team Virginia at Fargo three times. While in college at the University of Kentucky, Jeremy became deeply involved in MMA and he began training in various martial arts including boxing, judo, and jiu-jitsu in the Lexington, Kentucky area before graduating in 2004 with his B.S in Biology.
After completing his undergraduate work at UK, Jeremy furthered his education at the Medical College of Virginia in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program. While in Richmond, he continued his pursuit of MMA at the McCoy Martial Arts Institute under professional fighter Rick McCoy. Rick later gave Jeremy the nickname “All Day” for his seemingly endless conditioning obtained from his maniacal work ethic. Jeremy graduated from MCV in 2008 with a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree, as well as completed the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) course through the well-respected NSCA. He ended his competitive MMA career in 2010, remaining undefeated after spending his last years training in Harrisonburg, VA area.
In addition to his service to the SVWC, Jeremy currently serves as Area Director for Drayer Physical Therapy. He commands a deep understanding of sport specific strength training, breathing principles, sleep improvement, stress management, healthy weight loss, hormone regulation, and diet/supplementation use for both life and performance optimization. Jeremy has completed the Level One CrossFit Certification Course, is a CrossFit Certified Kettlebell Instructor, has written a nutrition book for martial artists titled “Feeding the War Machine: Nutrition for Fighters,” and has been published in Fight Magazine. He continues to compete in various adventure races, is an avid bowhunter/outdoorsman, and proud father of two young boys.

Head Middle School Coach Charlie Newman is another “local legend,” both on the wrestling mat and grid iron, where he earned Virginia State Defensive Football Player of the Year and later started for Division I JMU. Charlie has deep local roots, has been on the mats since he could walk, sharpened his teeth in the SVWC (where he competed for Team Virginia at Fargo in both Greco and FS), and won a state title for Turner Ashby High School in 2006 at heavyweight after being a finalist the year prior. Charlie was inducted into the Turner Ashby Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014.
Charlie is extremely passionate and motivated to be working with our middle school team, and expresses to them several strong goals, with one of them being to become nationally competitive. Charlie enjoys working out, spending time with family and friends, and raising his two daughters with his wife, Shelley.
HEAD YOUTH COACH: BEAU BAKER
Beau Baker started wrestling in 5th grade, within 2 years he was “all-in” and head over heals with the sport. Beau finished his High School career as a two time Virginia state champ, and the first for Turner Ashby. He won both state titles via technical fall, and to this day he remains arguably the best takedown wrestler in area history. Beau was inducted into the Turner Ashby Athletic Hall of Fame in 2013.
After High School, Beau received a wrestling scholarship to Southern Conference powerhouse, UT Chattanooga. While there he was a part of three SoCon championship teams. A few years after hanging up his wrestling shoes, he transferred his talents to the sport of Mixed Martial Arts. After an undefeated amateur record, Beau became one of Virginia first professional MMA fighters, ending with a 10-5 record spanning 6 years.
Beau returned to SVWC, the club he started in, when his son Gable began wrestling in Kindergarten. He has helped coach and restructure the club in the 6 years since, and took the role of Head Youth coach in 2019.
